Wow that's nice.  A beauty!

To my tastes, I always thought the '55-'57 Pontiac Safaris were more stylish than the Nomads.

From the ad.....

"The car does not have a title, as it is registered in a state that does not issue titles for a vehicle of its age. It is being sold on its registration."

What does this mean to the new buyer when registering the vehicle ?

I've wondered that too, George.  Like, how much of a pain would it be to import it into Canada without complete paperwork?  It still amazes me that many states don't issue titles for old cars, even though they are often worth as much as new cars.

Most cdn provinces have no separate Title document, the motor vehicle registration is also the title. NS had had a separate title since the 90s or so. NL and PEI had no title when I lived there.

only one state left and I think that is west Virgina . You register the car there they will give you a title. Its a win for them as you have to pay taxes to register it there.

Wouldnt the title be good for years ?
Like an Ontario ownership. It never expires. How do you prove who owns it ?

Very good point..... Wasn't that the "pink slip"?

Here there are those old pre title registrations still around, they never update them until you have a sale of want to get a new set of plates. They make you get the previous owner as shown on their records sign off the paperwork.

I bought one of my 62s from a junk yard about 2009, the owner still had the old ownership paperwork and I had it changed to my name via the new title. A weird thing, the old paperwork serial number didnt have the 2 first digit for the vin, it designated it is a 1962. My other 62 was the same, as was my friends 62 Impala, all ns cars that were registered here when new. I had to get the rcmp to sign off confirming the serial number plate had the 2.

On a side note the guys who formed Bring a Trailer have an interesting podcast that comes out weekly on Spotify. They talk to regular sellers and buyers and also discuss interesting cars on the site. The founders of this site are now multi-millionaires thanks to the fact they switch from a blog showing interesting cars on Craigslist to now being one of the most popular auction sites on the Web. I'd be surprised if any of these guys are over 35 years old. Good on them. Maybe I should start auctioning cars here!
