We can always reliably pull you to the keyboard with a nice Caddy Ray!
I love everything about it, except the dash. I mean, just look at a 68 dash, way richer looking. GM was obviously on a cost cutting mission from 69 on (maybe earlier), and it was starting to show.
A fellow I worked with has a '69 Coupe de Ville, and man that thing is overbuilt. GM definitely gave back for the extra money that people spent to get one, and it wasn't just gadgets as is the case with most newer cars. Everything from extra body braces to the huge rear axle. Don't know much about the cars otherwise but they must have been hard to kill back in the day.
My uncle was the mayor of Sarnia Ontario in the 1970's and always had Cadillacs. We'd visit maybe once a year and he'd take us on a tour of the city in his Caddy. My dad would get such a kick out of these cars as being the owner of a lowly 69 Strato Chief he never got to have "toys" like self closing trunk latches, power windows, AC etc.
It sure is a good thing I didn't see this car before I saw the Honda Trail 110. Who knows what might have happened? The practical thing about the black car is that it is big enough to sleep in after you wife kicks you out.
Had a '70 Coupe de Ville, back when I was young and stupid (instead of old and...). Lovely ride on the 401 between Toronto and London, back in the day.
