Does Ebay still have sale days?

Remember a few years back Ebay would have days with a certain % discount? Do they ever do that any more? I haven't seen that for a long time now.

I have not seen anything for over a year. Ebay really sucks now. And I have completely given up selling thru them. The Ebay era is over!

 I'm done selling there too but I still buy there occasionally.

Not so bad several years ago but a terrible site for buying anything now. In the extremely rare case that you find an item that's even remotely close to it's value, the shipping costs are horrendous.

I've still had good luck the odd time with finding something I either can't find in Canada, or something that's still cheaper even with shipping. The one shining star with Ebay is their Global Shipping program, if the seller uses it. The shipping costs are kept in line and the brokerage costs using it are less than the couriers. I likely buy off Ebay maybe once every 2-3 months, so not too often but it's still helped me out from time to time.

I agree Carl,  i still use it the same way.      I sure miss being able to sell stuff auction style with massive bidding wars on every part i listed(back in the days around 2008 or so anyway)

Back in the late 90s early 2000s that's when Ebay was great, no crazy fees for this, fees for that ! We did not need sales back then.

The late 90's was fantastic for me. I sold so much on there.

 Not sure about your comment re eBay's Global Shipping program.   It costs more than USPS, and takes a week longer.

I don't see how USPS can be cheaper. On Ebay, I bought a Speedostat cruise from New York. He shipped using Global Shipping. Total shipping costs including brokerage and everything was $31.68 US.   The cheapest way to ship USPS is a flate rate box and that same package to ship to Manitoba is $56.80 US.

That's just one example. I bought 2 engine kits last year off a company that sells on Ebay and the shipping/brokerage was less than 1/2 the cost of a company out of Iowa I used for decades. The kit prices were very similar between the two but it was going to cost me about $100 extra to deal with the Iowa company because they didn't use the Ebay shipping program.

I would be incline to agree.

I signed up in '99 and had alot of fun perusing, and even selling some stuff there.

Then when paypal started, that too was fantastic... then they (because ebay started and owned paypal) got greedy;
Then the sellers fees git hacked;
Then the buyers protection treated sellers as scammers by default.

I'd suggest the first bad move was to mask buyers id's - it removed a degree of accountability.

I have only sold two items in the last decade there because of the punitive fee structure for sellers, and Canadian purchasers.

As a purchaser, I have found the global shipping to be a mixed bag, sometimes it's a huge savings from USPS (which many sellers didn't want to use in the past I must point out) - but I am finding more often than not of late the globalb shipping is brutal for small packages.
I will seek out Canadian sellers, and pay more to buy it from a Canadian, to save even more on shipping.

 Agreed, I do the same. Typically when I buy off Ebay it's because there is no Canadian source or the price difference is past ridiculous.

I used to buy a lot on e-bay but not much recently in part because there's not much there anymore that I need. And because of increased costs.

I always intended to sell stuff on e-bay after my retirement but when I look at it now it does not seem to be worth the trouble.

Does anyone here use Facebook Marketplace and if so how does that work for you?

I use this forum first, then Kijiji and Marketplace. As you would expect I have by far the best success here and the deals always go well here.

I still find great deals if you dig deep enough, communicate and deal with the sellers, and look at the combined final costs carefully.
