Telsa now monitoring how often you adjust your seat.

And if you use the feature too much they'll disable it to reduce warranty costs.

That is so dumb doesnt it have to be fake news?

My gps tells me its time to take a break every so many hours and pops up gas stations and restaurants nearby. What would happen if it made me stop and rest? I only need to refuel every 10-12 hours so garmin gets excited.

It would only do this if it saved the company money on warranty costs... no

I have to say I'm about done with Tesla.  I hope that other companies' EVs will be able to take away their virtual monopoly on the sector.

Should "adjust" Tesla's "seat". Kick it to the curb.

As technology gets more advanced I'm sure you'll see all the other major auto manufacturers pull similar stunts. Perhaps they already are? Who knows what data is being saved these days?

Possibly, Todd, as some companies (maybe all?) already are collecting data each time the dealership plugs your car into its diagnostics system - it uploads data from your car to the company's main server.  I suspect that the intention is to use it for problem-solving (in the most severe case), but mostly just to keep the car up to date on its latest software patches... but who knows what could be done with it in the future - deny you warranty because you used your paddle shifters too much and your transmission wore out?  Hard to say.

Tesla has taken it further than anybody with this, however.  To me it seems somewhat Orwellian that it's going to tell you how to use your features and eventually shut them down, in order to compensate for poor quality components in its vehicle and thus save itself the cost of warranty claims.  I think that's a function of the company being more or less the main choice in the EV market (and almost being a religion to some owners).  I perceive it as a degree of arrogance by the company, in that they can treat their customers badly but they will still come back.  All that might change once there is more competition out there.

Perhaps it's an extension of Musk being the "character" that he is, but it's not a company that impresses me overly.   Like you say, though, maybe the other companies will see that he is getting away with it and follow suit?  Makes me want to collect a few 1960s - 1970s cars and drive them as daily drivers year round to get out of the data loop... wink
