A way to save on mailing small parts through Canada post

by small parts i mean emblems   or perhaps hot wheels cars

anyway I had a recent experience of mailling a small item - in this case a hotwheels sized car

the package looked like this - measured about 3x2 inches and weighs .65 grams

canada posts cost to  send this from MB to BC is 22.00

( makes no sense - i had just mailled  a quadrajet to ontario for 25.00)

Anyway i probably didn't look too happy so the post office clerk says you could use a Regional Express post envelope- that would cost 15.00

anyway  apparently you can put up to 500 grams in it- you can also put wider item in it - i just stuffed the box that i was originally going to use to mail the hotwheels car into this envelope,

15.00 still isnt cheap but it is cheaper than 22.00

Yes, the Canada Post rates ( and courier rates) have sure taken a jump lately. And the postal rates to ship US to Canada has gotten crazy too. I bought an item that was going to be about $22 US to ship to the border in North Dakota (25 miles away from me) or $59 US to ship the extra 25 miles to our home in Manitoba. I can't wait for the border to be open again so we can go pick up our parcels in the US.

Had somone at post office tell me to take the parcel home and make it bigger, would cost less. so put thermal parcel in bigger box
and took it back the3 next day and saved myself a few bucks. I usually use the online estimates before I go in after that and play
with sizes to check.

Well I've never tried that! I usually use the home system as well. I'll have to remember that for future.

There's also Canada Post flat rate boxes that come in three sizes and allow up to 5kg. I shipped a radio to Ontario this way a couple of weeks ago and it seemed quicker than express post.
