As most of you may know there was potato wart found in a couple of fields here in PEI which brought a ban from the US of any importing of PEI Potatoes. This is devastating for the island growers as they've lost a large portion of their markets and have no idea how many seed potatoes to order for this years crop. I won't get political but it's been said very little or anything is being done to rectify the situation. Millions of pounds of potatoes are being destroyed. The major growers held an open house today to educate the public about the potato industry in PEI and to allow folks to "Fill your boots" with as many potato's as you want. We arrived close to closing and there were still a couple of hundred people at the location we visited. I suspect a couple thousand people took them up on the offer for free potato's and there was barely a dent in the pile. We got 60lbs worth. Some folks took several hundred pounds. Here's a couple of photos of the pile which will likely end up spread on the fields and chewed up with snowblowers.
Sad to see. Can they make moonshine/alcohol out of it or sell it to someone who can?? Maybe get a few $$ back??? Don't want to get political;;;;;but they take your $$$ when you make money..but don't give back when you lose $$$.

Good stuff ... make lemonade out of lemons, or in this case, french fries out of potatoes.
