Very nice. Same color as my 69 Kingswood wagon. Almost certainly a 400 small block. I drove a 70 custom coupe with this power train about 15 years ago. It could really move.

Siamesed bores. Not GM's finest design.

Wagons were spec'd with 400 small blocks, that's a fact, 265 HP, 400 torque in 1970, both Gross measures.

Love everything about it, including the worn paint!

I used to hear people talking about the siamesed cylinders in the 400 small block, but does that really matter for everyday use?  Would the reduced cooling cause cylinder damage?  What was the problem with it?

This 56 has a 400sb with fuel injection, works pretty good. Carl, a double Fake 56.0E79F928-86B2-4F4B-88E2-E55328060DDD.jpeg

Obviously not much, here is a 52 year old example that seems to be in good order. Hillar and Clint owned a 1970 2+2 400 sbc that was an absolute beast and we have a nice 400 sbc 2+2 Feature Car of Bruce McIntyre that all seem to be purring along nicely. It debuted in 1970 and was produced for 10 years. It did feature Siamesed cylinders for greater strength, with the large bore and a larger 2.65 inch rod journal. The engine saw duty in A and B body cars and wagons as well as trucks. Not known as a high HP engine it did however offer significant torque. For performamnce enthusiasts it was the existence of the 400 that led to the 383 stroker, 350 with a 400 crank and its legendary status. GM never offered the 383 in production but was savvy enough to produce the 383 stroker as a crate engine offering it through the Chevrolet Power catalougue over the counter.

That was my impression, that it was a good, serviceable engine with lots of torque, which would explain why they put it in the big cars.
