Not exactly Pontiac but does anyone know what color a 6 cylinder in a 62 Canadian impala would be. Found a rusted out 62 4 door but has a 6 cylinder and its green just like a pontiac 261. Could not get at block casting number but stamping number is W9216635 could not find any information on this stamping number
Dang, that is a really good question! i had a super rust free low mile 62 about 10 years ago, the engine was taken apart and mostly in the trunk, i tossed it for a 283, and my pictures just dont clarify the color unfortunately. It would not surprise me if the 6 cyl was a grey or green unlike the Blue that all other chevrolet 6 cyl had or the V8 orange and the USA versions
Calling CarlStevenson: doesnt a guy in morris have that super nice low mile black with green interior 6cyl impala HT? do you know him?

From my research the W9 prefix on the engine number is for a Pontiac 261 with a powerglide. I will include a screen shot from this site for comparison. My recollection is that the 235 in Chevrolet cars was dark blue.
Thanks guys I know it should be a 235 I'm still looking for 261 pistons and was hoping that I could confirm what this engine is. I might be able to get a bore scope camera between motor mount and block to see casting numbers.
I think I didn't explain myself correctly. Looking to find out if anybody knows if 62 canadian impala or around those years would of had a 235 that would be green from factory. I'm thinking a 261 might of been swapped in at one point. Dont want to by car have it hauled home and find out it's a 235. Already was told by wife to leave it there. Lol. Will probably have to go back and remove motor mount to see casting numbers
Canadian pontiac 261 six cylinders were always green and chevy sixes were blue. With the W9 prefix it will be a 261/powerglide the block will have 2 captain bars on it. the 261 has a larger diameter wrist pin than a 235 . I would guess the engine in the 62 chev you have found is a 261 transplant.
This is a Canadian 62 BelAir, 235 powerglide, I drove it home and sold the 235 and ironglide to a fellow from Corner Brook area, he was putting it in a 52 Chevy, I think. Some of the original paint looks blue, some looks a bit green, most of the engine paint had fallen off.

Only the numbers can tell those 2 apart? The colour of them is debatable.

Found captain's bars on right side. All good. Looked at head casting numbers on 3 known 261 and all have 235 head casting numbers. # 3836848 all green motors. Found some info on web and I'm not the only one that has noticed this.
The 261 out of my 55 wagon has an 848 head. The engine looks to be all original . My other 55 sedan the head has a different casting number. The 848 head is the preferred head for a 261.
