Looking for Collector Car Insurance companies in Alberta (Calgary).......other than Hagerty.

I have Hagerty insurance on my collector car, and it's coming due soon.

What other companies are offering collector car insurance in Alberta,

and how do they compare to Hagerty (if you know).

Thanks,

-G

When I was shopping around about a dozen years ago everyone wanted an appraisal, but Hagerty (through their broker Lundgren & Young) did not. With 3 cars, getting appraisals done adds up. If I recall, appraisals in Calgary were about $300 each.

I have not had any issues with Hagerty, but I haven't made a claim.

 Who's the competition to Hagerty?

Any Canadian Insurance companies that do Collector cars ?

George, I don't know how insurance works in Alberta but before I went to Hagerty I had SMI on my 66. I never had a claim with them but I've heard good things about them. I switched because it saved me well over $200 year with Hagerty.

There's a few out there, but the only one that comes to mind right now is Competition Insurance.   Once upon a time there was Baker Insurance, but they got bought out.   They might fall under the Competition Insurance umbrella, but I think it was someone else.

Thanks Carl, that's what I'm looking for so I can compare the different aspects of the insurance.

Surprisingly, Sask Mutual has offices in Calgary.

We have government insurance in Manitoba. We have to buy our basic from them (Autopac) but we can buy extended coverage anywhere, and both SMI/Hagerty offer very competitive classic car coverage. Lots of guys in Manitoba buying from either of them.

Many years ago it was Baker Insurance, but now it's Intact Insurance, have been with them since Baker got sold.

No issues can insure with paid purchase price or an appraisal, but never had a claim yet so cannot say how they settle.

I tried Hagerty for a quote this year on my renewal date found them double plus on coverage.

Competition is no more and hasn't been for 5 or 6 years now.

Competition is now Wayfarer Insurance Group and their classic car insurance was sent to Hagerty.

My daughter was rear ended and her insurance was Intact.

Dealing with them was like pulling teeth. They made her do all the leg work with the other insurance.

Not helpful at all. Shes not with them anymore.

I've been with Intact for a few years, no issues yet. Premium per year @ $250 for replacement appraised value and 5000k travel. Hagerty quoted $450 for the same.

Intact over here as well. Interesting to hear of the price differential with Hagerty.

I need a decent appraiser first, the last one I had was really not a great experience or result.
