Chinese Rochester BC

Further to another post detailing carburetor woes in '59-261..

'Rochester' arrived from China. To my surprise, car runs and drives fine. Longevity, well, we'll see..

Purist that I am, this is absolutely temporary. I can use the car for now, and wait for a rebuilt that I've ordered from Autoline as a result of a tip from a kind gent in Morris MB.

Chinese unit will make a fine spare for emergency use. An option if you're really stuck.

Nice, glad to hear it worked out. Sometimes we get a nice surprise from the cheap overseas products. And sometimes we don't!

Sometimes the cheap overseas junk is sold by aGM dealer? I am a big sceptic of Chinese parts but they do have some half decent stuff once in a while. Id keep driving that Chinese carb and use the Autoline as a spare, if it aint broke, dont fix it?

I did a Motorcraft 2100 carb conversion on my Jeep YJ about 3 years ago and that carb was a Chinese copy and worked great.

Ebay, $180 USD shipped. One week in, car never ran/drove so well.

there was a pretty in depth discussion looking into the Chinese knock-off Quadrajets on the Performance Years forum (?)last year;
The concensus (iirc) was that the knock off carbs marketed for smaller engines were decent, but the Quadrajet needed extra work, and could be fixed, but an original USA (re)manufactured one was going to likely perform better, with less modification.

Here is the really good dissection of one:
