I took pause from my work day when the local classic rock station shared that he Queen hd just passed.
I didn't know here health was slipping.
I am a a monarchist; My monarchist inclinations stem from my love of history, and from being a numismatist; My coin collection stemmed from my one "bird penny" (read: 1967 centennial penny) that I had as a small boy in my piggy bank - this was when I was three or four; I would dump out all my pennies, and search for that one penny, and study it... I loved that it was different from all the others.
Those numismatic interests lead me to learn about the monarchy, and it's place in history ect.
Any who, all that aside;
I believe that the Queen was always a figurehead of level headedness (that's a word right?); I appreciated that she never got involved in the dirtiness that all too often is politics, and thought that her place as a figurehead for our collective past and tradition was a good thing to have around. Keep in mind that all of my family immigrated to Canada from Germany in 1948/1949 (all of them were displaced after the war).
I am not too encouraged about what the years to come might have in store for the monarchy.
I knew it was coming, but I am saddened to read of her passing.
I have not yet bought myself a 2021 or 2022 uncirculated sets, but am guessing that the current calendar year ones will sell out quickly considering her passing.

I had the pleasure of meeting Queen Elizabeth II in 1990 when she was in Calgary. I ran the satellite TV truck back in those days, and as such was invited to a media reception in the Crystal Ballroom of the Palliser Hotel. I was provided an invitation (which I have framed) and a presentation card with my name on it. We entered the room one by one, gave our presentation card to the gent who officially announced our presence. We then proceeded to meet QE II for a brief moment before the next person was introduced. Once we were all in the room, she mingled about. We briefly spoke of her previous visit in 1973, and how much the city had grown since that time.

I was born in England, came here when I was 2. My mom was a big fan of Queen Elizabeth. She was a good lady, served her country well for a long time. She had a good long life. It won't be the same without her I am sure. I don't know if Charles is up to the task.
No Monarchist here. I didn't expect to be, but I'm upset and saddened with her death. Friends to Canada, I respected her and Phillip, although the same sadly cannot be said of most of the rest.
And after all, being a first gen Canadian, born in 61, schooled in public institutions, she was always a constant. Always just reliably "there". Many times every class had her portrait in a prominent spot, and after many hundreds of times, I can still recite God save the Queen.
I'm sure it's a shared sentiment.

I must have been 10 years old and my parents bundled my sister and I up to go to my grandparents to watch the Coronation on my grandfather's black and white tv at 4.00 am. Probably a 12 inch tv at the time. Always admired the Queens hats and clothes over the years.

I too am saddened by her passing. She was an extraordinary person, the likes of which we probably won't see again, at least in our lifetimes.
I don't tend to think of myself in terms of being a monarchist or not, but if it means that I would want Canada to be run by a single person, then I guess I'm not as I firmly believe in democracy. If it means that I have been a supporter of the Queen as a ceremonial figure, one who has been revered and admired (based on her character), then perhaps I would be a monarchist, or more likely a royalist as I believed in the character of the person. I also like what The Commonwealth stands for ("The Commonwealth Charter defines their shared values of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law" - from wikipedia).

im not a monarchist and cant wait until australia no longer has the monarchy as our head of state but we are independant. That said it doesnt mean I dont respect QE2. She was a strong figurehead who lead her country and gave strength to others over many years through some terrible times. for the first time our australian metric currency will have the head of another monarch.....
the outpouring of grief and mourning will be enormous. The way the media and public tear to shreds the royals, transition wont be pretty.
RIP a life well spent in service of the commonwealth.

Monarchist or not, she was such a constant over the 5 decades I've been alive it's hard to believe she would ever leave us. At the end of the day, royalty or not she was a wife, mother, grand and great grandmother so it's sad to hear.

I'm an Aussie and not a Monarchist either. However, I'd rather the British Monarch as the Australian Head of State than someone elected by Politicians. Either the Head of State is elected by the people of Australia, or it remains as is. No in between for me.

Yes, basically spot on. The Governor General is the Monarch's representative in Australia.
There have been attempts to turn Australia into a Republic but has never happened. As far as I am aware it needs a referendum in every State and also Federally to get above 50%.
The sticking point will always be who elects the Head of State - I don't think anyone wants it to be a political appointment ie jobs for the boys, or diversity hire or whatever.
And I should add - RIP Elizabeth II. And agree with the sentiments of the OP and most others here.

There may be different interpretations of the term "monarchist", so this definition pretty much nails my stance:
I am a monarchist, because I like to retain a degree of tradition;
The monarchy is a symbol of the past that I hope deosn't dissapear from our country.
If the monarch was still a position where someone who was not voted in and could make laws of their own whim, then I would not be a monarchist;
I think that the system that is used in the UK and Canada, although imperfect, is a good one, and hope that we do not too quickly sever ties with our past.
The Queen's conduct, and demeanour ABSOLUTELY were pivotal in me forming my opinion.

My Brit friends have a saying- who won the war- I asked why the Queen was riding in that thing. Youd think they would have had a rolls Royce? They are owned by BMW, Jag by Tata, Bentley by VW, so what is still British owned?
It could at least have been a British brand.
