Worth reading, truly remarkable medical response, 8 injured, 7 needed ventilators. Friday afternoon late, heading into the Labour Day long weekend. 
I had a tour of the refinery back when Vitol operated it, driven in a refinery fire department vehicle, the firefighter was explaining what each piece of the refinery did and kept repeating in his description- back when it was on fire -frequently. I asked him what was the record for number of fires, he said when it was operated by a previous owner, they had 8 fires on one shift. I financed a new foam truck for the fire department, it was being built in Florida. The build contract called for Florida to send a loaner foam truck if delivery was delayed, they ended up with a loaner and ended up using it in a fire. 
The refinery is now under new owners who will produce diesel and jet fuel from waste animal fat etc. Hope they are good operators, the cause of this explosion is still under investigation. 
I first saw the refinery when I drove by in September 1973. Drove by it many many times since, the flame was always burning off waste propane etc. I used to have a Come By Chance Valley plywood road sign I found by the side of the road in site of the refinery flame. It was converted to a coffee table and held up a lot of beer back in the day. 

Clare ville has a population of about 7000, quite a response to a disaster.
