1966 Beaumont backup light bulbs

I have a 1966 Beaumont sport deluxe convertible. The backup lights have never worked and Im trying to fix them. My first problem is the lightbulbs. They say W631 on them and i cant find them for sale or even any equivalent. Who is to say these are actually the right bulbs anyways. Does anybody know what kind of bulbs the reverse lights take? Any idea what the issue would be if I use the wrong bulbs?

My 70 Chevelle uses 1156 bulbs for the reverse lights. 1156 was a very common bulb in the 60s and 70s.

I think an 1156 would be typical. My 1970 cars use a 631 bulb in the footwell lights.

1156 basically looks like a 1157, but is a single filament.

The parts computer at Canadian Tire indicated 1156 as well. That's a single filament bulb and these W631a that I have are dual filaments. I suspect these W631s are probably the wrong bulb that was put in at some point.

Thanks to you both for confirming that. No offense to the 16 year old at Canadian Tire, but I wanted a more informed opinion.

Look into the bulb socket and see how many contacts there are. There is typically one contact, and it's right in the middle.
