You are correct that I do not have control on what's posted. I would really like to get away from the ads altogether but this would require yearly subscriptions as the ad revenue is a main revenue stream for the site.
I do know a lot of members are using ad blockers which is really affecting ad revenue. We're down about 70% in ad revenue compared to two or three years ago.
Now that I'm currently a "free agent" I'm going to devote more time to the site this winter.
Ads that pop up are not necessarily random. The software that generates the ads uses the search history of your computer to determine what type of products might appeal to you and with phones the software even hears what you are discussing and chooses ads accordingly. Artificial Intelligence is a remarkable tool and even scary at times.
