Yes, I saw the same report on CTV Montreal but I believe it was for all of Canada, not just Ontario.

Next they will have to find out how they are stealing them, Tow truck? Most of those if not all have immobilizer systems
in them so should make them harder to steal. Unless some brilliant kid has figured out how to bypass that.

Most theives are using devices that either plug into the OBDII port to code a blank fob or receivers that pick up the owners fob signal. Seems to me the newer ignition systems are more vulnerable then the systems used in the 80's-early 2000's with the chipped keys.

Say I had a 15-20 F150. Would it be feasible to just hidden kill switch, say, the fuel pump circuit. Or would that make the computer lose it's mind?

There is a simple key lock device that goes over the on-board computer plug that prevents them plugging in.

They can still hack the locks but not the ignition.

I remember back in the 70s car thieves from Quebec would come to Ontario and buy current year higher end cars that were written off. They would then steal a car in Quebec that was the same as the write off and swap the vin number. Ownerships werent branded back then so the stolen car would have a clean Ontario title. An RCMP officer was talking about it to me when I was servicing his car and they shut down one of the theft rings after doing surveillance. They had a truck with a 28 van body with ramps and the truck had a long hydraulic cylinder mounted on the frame under the van body. The cylinder had a cable system on it and the cable came up through the floor of the van body around a pulley at the front. When under surveillance this truck backed up to a parked Lincoln Town Car, two guys put the ramps out and hooked the cable onto the car. The hydraulic cylinder pulled the car into the van very quickly and the ramps were picked up and they were gone in about five minutes. If they want your car they will find a way to steal it.
