Vent cables messed up

Finished a rest on my 66 sd. The manual vent cables are rusted fast and will not move a fraction of an inche. The vent doors are both great but the cables are stuck fast.  Can anyone recommend a procedure to free these cables inside their sleeves? I know I can but repops but the are on back order.  I need a real good soaking rust buster to free the cables.  Help, anyone e. Thanks.

I'd take them out, coil them up in the bottom of a small bucket and pour some light oil or trans fluid over them. Let them soak for a day or two.

I think the sheath is basically an open metal coil without a liner right? So the oil should penetrate easily.

If you can find Evaporust, buy a jug of that and try it doing what Mark suggested if trans fluid won't do it.

And one you get them free, a nice light lithium spray grease to keep it from happening again. The lighter the better so it can flow into the housings. I use Kleen Flo 914 grease for cables.

Thanks guys. I have tried soaking them in a pentrating oil but no.go. Today I bought a spray product called Moovit. A few minutes soaking in that stuff and some elbow grease and they freed right up. Appreciate the input.

I think he would have to buy Lemans cables for his Beaumont though.

I've never heard the expressions "rusted fast" and "stuck fast".

Wow, I wouldn't have guessed. The Chevelle and Beaumont controls are located so differently. The Beaumont one is up so much higher. I thought it would need longer cables. Never too old to learn!

One meaning of the term "fast" is.....firmly fixed. ie, His feet were fast in concrete.

Yup..soak them and give them a bend by hand every so often. Will open up the outside sheathing to let the oil soak in.

My vent cables are no longer held " fast" in the sleeve thanks to this forum. I used a quality penetrating oil/ lubricant called Moovit. Worked well. Thank you all.
