Speed limit indicator

My brother in law just bought a 66 chevelle and it has an option on the speedometer that buzzes when indicated speed is reached it has a dial to set it. Was this a factor option or was it added later in life

If I recall it was called speed alert and was a factory option. I remember seeing more of them on higher priced cars like Buick and Oldsmobile if cruise control wasnt ordered.

Factory option but it's a rare one on a 66 Chevelle. Pretty cool!

I had one in a 67 Grande Parisienne station wagon in the 80's. That thing scared the crap out of me a few times but it might have saved me some tickets too.

Well we have done a bit of research on a chevelle forum and have discovered that the option may not have been available till 67 so we checked, his instrument panel is a 67 still a pretty cool option. It has a bunch of other unique options also.

I think I remember one on a used 67 camaro, 4 speed, 327, white, Dad brought home one day from work. It would have been in 67/68.

I had a 72 Riviera GS, with cruise and "speed alert". I thought it was a very useful option and wondered why its still not available....

Not "was" Kevin, "is". She still has it and loves to torment us with the occasional reminder! biggrin Likely only about 99% of here would love to own that car.

The U15 Speed Warning, or Safety Sentinel in Canada, was a factory option. According to my 1967 Features and Specifications manual it was a factory OR dealer option.

I thought they introduced it with the '67 models. In '67 it would have been the only buzzer in any car but for '68 the ignition key buzzer was added to all GMs.
