Question for ANZAC or SA members (RHD Specific)

Does anyone know if the 83 inch Speedo cables from ATP or Pioneer are correct for our full size RHD cars?

(Because the speedo is effectively from a 1961 Bel Air I'm talking about a Chevrolet part and my car has a Powerglide trans)

The Pioneer CA-3004 is 83" long, with a nut on each end. I don't see why that's wouldn't work in your application, as the transmission end is threaded, and the speedometer end is also threaded (with a smaller nut).

I think so too, but, having had my dash out and in once, I'm fully aware of how much further the cable has to go to get from the left side of the firewall - where it leaves the engine bay - all the way over to the speedo on the right hand side. There's around 3 feet of cable behind the dash! If no one from Aus, NZ or SA sees this, I'll just have to remove it before I order one.

I have an 83 inch cable in my 63, my transmission is a Super T10 which has the speedometer hookup on the passenger side. Rockauto lists the stock cable as 63 inches so the extra 20 inches should be fine, mine is a bit too long but not too bad.

I can try to look up the original GM cable for you later today. I might have a part number and/or specifications for it.

For our full-size cars, when did they switch the speedometer end from threaded to push-on? I think around 1967.

Measured my speedo cable. Mind you it was connected both ends. I reckon 83 would be right. My hokey arse way of following the sheath with the tape measure came in at about 80. Allowing for poor allignment of the tape with the sheath, you are ok. Luckily i had a metric and imperial tape measure...

That's brilliant and thanks to you all. Rock Auto have the 83" and I think the car deserves a new one after 58 years. Once I get over 20 mph the speedo needle starts jumping around, making a ticking sound each time it does so, it's bound to fail completely some time soon.
