Remember these speedometers?

Been a long while but I saw this Olds for sale and remembered these speedo's . My Uncle had a 69 Olds 40 years ago and think that's the last time I saw one in person. I remember thinking they were sooooo cool!!

I also recall the early 60s olds and others with the horizontal speedometers with the various pieces indicating speed changing colours? I recall some red, some yellow?

I recall that 69 one posted above , unique stuff back then.

EBay shows this as a 1961.

I looked at a 1960 Buick once that had a "Mirromagic" speedometer.  IIRC they carried it on through 1961 and then dropped it.

the 1968 chevelles actually.   the 69 had the round one in the clock area.    those 68 bar style chevelle tachs are worth a few thousand these days!

But only for collector value, certainly not because they are at all useful!

I don't recall the vertical scrolling speedo, but I do remember the horizontal bar.

My grandfather used to rebuild dashes & steering columns for Edsel owners. At the end, he had a half dozen in various stages of assembly/disassembly in his house. I was young, and don't know whatever happened to them. Hopefully they ended back with the owners, but I'm not sure if the ownership was documented beyond Grandpa's memory.

This shows the dash of a 1958 Edsel. Note the "Rolling Dome" speedometer with the rotating dial. You can also see the push button trans selector (Teletouch).

(Can't see it in this photo, but I recall a "TouchLube" button down near the ignition key. Push the button to grease your suspension while driving down the road...

Those roller tachs & speedos aren't exactly a triumph of legibility but they'll do.

Here's a '68 Chevelle roller tach.

Here's a GM Accessory roller tach.

this is some neat stuff!

I really think that in the 50's through the 60's the design departments had alot more fun than they have had since...
