I just learned of a new (to me) southern MB dealership...

I just learned of a new (to me) southern MB dealership - and unlike Park Pontiac where I bought parts from when I lived in Winnipeg, this dealership still exists!!

The dealership in question was 'West Park Motors Ltd' in Altona - and is now known as 'West Park Chevrolet Buick GMC'.

Yeah, yeah, some of you might scoff and say "Hey Jonathan, that dealership is listed in the 'show me your dealership badge' discussion" - in my defence, it's rather easy to breeze over names in that discussion - EVEN if(!) you have tried to help compile information for that very thread.
LOL

Here's how I came to know about it (just yesterday):

I reached out to VVS because I have some engines here that I have been curious about the cars they came from;
The one at the forefront to me is the engine that my car came with when I got my car in 1995 (out of Riverton).
When I saw it, the car was in the hands of a second owner who lived (well still lives) in Riverton;
I was told by the previous owner (the guy who bought it out of Winnipeg in late 1985; he still lives in Riverton) that he did nothing to it - besides a colour change which was decided on a whim after a small parking lot skirmish - and pretty much immediately regretted. (to me, that's rather comedic)

Any way, for the last several years I have been taking my car apart to properly fix it (it has a LOT of rust, thanks Manitoba salt >:( ), and came to realize that the rear end was from another car;
I previously knew that the driveshaft was not original, because it had the TH400 yolk on the front;
According to what I have read, this one is a specific yolk that was only used in 1970, so I theorized that it was probably easier to swap the whole driveshaft rather than R&R the the yolk;
That yolk by the way worked perfectly with the 1972 M22 that was in my car... But I digress, I have gone off tangent;
Back to that rear end, it's the same gear ratio as what my car was built with, but it is a factory assembled posi rear, and my car did not have an optional posi;
Additionally, I found that the drivers door, and drivers mirror were both from a white car.
My hunch was that the engine, driveshaft, door and mirror were all from the same car - and I am now pretty sure I was correct.

I received from VVS information that the engine my car had in 1995 (err, 1985) was from a white Trans Am sold out of 'West Park Motors'.

I am guessing that the car was wrecked or parted prior to 1986 (unless it was stripped down for racing).

Just in case any of you southern Manitobian's happen to know of white 1970 Trans Am's running around which originally came from West Park Motors, well I just might have it's original engine!
(assuming the car wasn't crushed before I turned ten years old!)
There were only 272 Trans Am's sold in Canada in 1970(!).

The Trans Am came with MANY standard items which were cost options on lesser models.  Some of the included options for the TA were a 400-4bbl 'Ram Air' (III) engine, choice of either a no charge four speed (close or wide ratio) or three speed automatic, p/s, p/b, a special 'Formula' steering wheel, 15x7 (de-chromed) Rally II wheels c/w raised white letter F60-15 tires, full instrumentation, and other stuff...

This particular Trans Am was a white on blue (n/c standard interior) car with the following options:

  • automatic (n/c option)
  • front and rear mats
  • centre console (if this wasn't ordered with an automatic, it was column shifted!)
  • wheel trim rings
  • AM radio (single dash speaker)

The car was built at the Norwood Ohio plant, and shipped on February 22nd 1970 - which I believe would have meant it was sent out on one of the very first days that any "1970+" F-bodies would have been shipped;
The vin would indicate (according to someone much more versed in this stuff than me) that the car was likely built on the second week of January - probably right around when production started in advance to the "1970+" F-bodies being debuted to the public (I believe this was also before Van Nuys plant started building any of these vehicles).
