Vintage Winnipeg Photo

An archive photo of the construction of Polo Park taken in 1967. Interesting Winnipeg history but what caught my eye immediately is that 66 Beaumont front and centre in the photo!

Long roof Pontiac behind the Comet rag top. Also a Mini peeking out from behind the beetle?

Those frost shields were mandatory? I never knew that. Mandatory in Manitoba only, or Saskatchewan too?

As a kid, I recall seeing cars from SK and MB coming though BC with the frost bubbles on the windows. I thought they were just popular on the cold prairies!

I think he was just being sarcastic about them being mandatory, but many vehicles in the cold prairies had them.

In the drivers door glass you can see a translucent rectangle.  Frost shields were sold and adhered to the inside of the glass so that area didn't frost up.

I remember installing those in the 70's when I worked at the service station. What a pain that was installing the big one in the back window. ALWAYS seemed to end up with a "bubble" when you went around the adhesive border pressing it on to the glass.

We were still selling them at Canadian tire when i worked there in 97-98.     I recall reading in the hiway handbook or an MPIC book about 10-15 years ago stating that they were mandatory for any window not directly provided with a defrost vent pointed at it(example the rear window of a car with no defroster or defogger in the back., and of course only in the winter months.   Wish I could find that book or literature now,  but I'm sure it has been updated now
