Great to hear but I honestly can never understand how people can accidentally run into huge buildings.   I hate to bring it up as it is soon enough to be a thing for me but do most of these have the common denominator of age?  Before he had to quit driving my father had dinged up his car quite a bit and we should have taken the keys away sooner but it is never an easy thing to do.

Classic case of "Wrong pedal" is my take on it Ken.

I think this happens more than we'd like to believe.

If that's the case we need to ban all cars with more than 2 pedals, especially for older people  (There goes my audience!)

I have had a few instances happen. Generally the older hard of hearing who can't hear how much they are revving the engine. Lots here in the shop... EFI but they still have their foot on the gas.. I had an older gentleman run into the coop grocery store here in town many years ago. Jumped the curb and into the building. I had to reach in and shut the engine off for him. The Subway store he this past fall had the same thing happen. I don't know the skinny on that one. But there have been many instances.

2 weeks ago, an 87 year old gentleman was missing for 3 days. He left his house in my hometown and disappeared. He was found off of the town wharf unfornunately deseased in his car. Although there was an 8"X8" barrier, I am sure he hit the gas instead of the brake while turning around on the wharf.

As a kid, we played there constantly. 1st and only time I have ever heard of this happening. The pic of my Estate was taken there. It happened close to where the front bumper is situated.

Very sad day...

Myself, my wife and son were inches from being seriously injured (or killed) about 14 years ago. We were at an ice cream parlour in Woodstock Ontario. Normally we'd order then sit down and wait for our ice cream. For some reason we all stood by the counter. I heard a loud crash and turned around to find a Chrysler Sebring "parked" in the dining area. At first I thought the car was on fire as I could see smoke coming from under the car but it was the front tires spinning. The senior driver still had her foot on the gas pedal. Another family was sitting down but were far enough away from the car that they weren't injured. Ironically the young child was running around the dining area and the parents told him to get back and sit down literally 20 or so seconds before the car came through the wall.

Cops had no desire to get a statement from us. "You weren't hurt were you?". I replied "Not physically"  I remember us all being in a sort of state of shock when we were driving home. We also still had to pay for our ice cream..furious

Todd, that makes you realize, but for chance things can go south pretty quick.

You don't want to be paranoid, but there is no harm in keeping your eyes open and being on alert for exactly this is there? No protection in front of the store, don't sit where a car can potentially come in. Sometimes not possible, but all the same.

This is actually the second time in two years the shop has had a car through the window. So bollards are probably overdue...but not likely due to cost. Again, it probably happens way more than it's reported.

The red is somewhat downhill to the store,
