Anti-Theft radio reset...anyone know a "easy" way to activate the radio?

I got a Am/Fm CD with cassette radio from Pick n Pull to put in my 2006 Silverado.

Anyone know of a quick way (or any way)  to remove the "Locked" Code of this junkyard radio so it works in my truck?

I have used a scanner to reset the radio in the past. I retired in 2016 and it was a Snap on scanner, I think it was a Solus we had at the time. It had a section to setup the radio. Resetting the radio also resets the theftlock. Hope it works for you.

I did a radio for my buddy a few years ago and kept the notes on my Ipad. This is what iwrote.

Gm delco radio unlock

Press 1&3 on radio for 10 sec.
Write down 3 digit code
Press 2&4
Write down 3 digit code
1-800-537--5140
Div1 dealer 620529
Enter 6 digit radio code (3+3)
It will give you 4 digit sec code

 Pete,

This is the system to get your 94-2002 radio unlocked (when you lose power to your radio)

Unfortunately the number appears to no longer in service if you need to unlock your radio.

My situation is trying to get a junkyard radio unlocked.

Paul has the right solution using a scanner. I need to scan the information in that radio and change the

VIN number registered to the VIN in my truck,   or eliminate the anti-theft portion from the radio.

I can get it done at the dealership for $150., or (if I can) find someone in Calgary that has a scanner that would do it for cheap.

Thanks for your help.

George, know any Russian hackers?

My buddy was helping a friend who had a Saab, ignition/key switch went, he got a replacement but couldnt reprogram it for anti theft. Only place he could get it a bunch of years ago was $100 from a Russian geek. Worked perfect.

Try that now and csis/fbi/cia probably would know your favourite underwear?

Don,

I'd ask Putin,but he's kind of busy with other things these days.

I did find this on the internet and I'm inquiring if it works for a 2006.

Seems quick and easy.

It would cost,but at least I would keep the gadget instead of shelling out money

that I wouldn't see again. Maybe make a few bucks on the side with it.

Hope they have one available for the 2006.

where are you?
if you are local, I can do it.

I have understood that you need a TechII;
Those radios communicate with the BCM, so short of cracking it open, and breaking out the soldering iron, I dont know of any way to unlock them.

I believe that any GM service department can do it for you - but I am guessing you want as cheap an option as possible.

I just watched the video;
I believe he overstated what GM has done;
They were never built to be:

locked to that vehicles vin for life

Rather they are built, to deter/prevent theft, and communicate with the vehicle to verify no funny business is going on;
Essentially what GM did was plummet the value of OBDII vehicle radios with the introduction of theftlock;

I believe this started around 2002.

I first ran into this about fifteen years ago when I attempted to upgrade the deck in my 1991 Grand Am with one that fit, which was pulled from a 2004-ish car - I found NO get around was out there because my GA had no BCM for it to communicate with.
