BELL INTERNET

It would be nice if the "PEOPLE" installing new Internet lines would stop cutting into existing Bell lines. We have lost Internet service 3 times since August 9th at intervals lasting longer than 20 hours each time. They must have location data where the existing lines are, becoming very FRUSTRATING.

Are you saying that new providers pulling in new lines are cutting the Bell cables?
Is your Bell service underground or aerial (on poles)?
And yes, new providers submit plans to the local authorities on where they want to go, get that plan approved. If underground, then line locates are completed before work starts.

Sounds like the line locate gang aren't marking the underground utilities very well.

Leaving all politics aside,

In Ontario, there is a big push to run fiber optic internet to all rural areas.

Last year we went through the same mess.

These guys seem to be on deadlines and don't care about anything else.

We live in one county but have a postal code from another county.

So, we had a turf war over our hamlet with an actual fist fight between contractors on my neighbour's lawn.

The cops arrested one and the judge banned him from the area.

I now have two fiber boxes on the side of my home.

They are useless as I rely the Bell 5G microwave dish above it wink

Yes there are too many different players digging with little or no concern about what they are doing. The last 20 plus hour shut down was caused by an "idiot" digging in a swamp area and cut through the line! There are at least 3 different firms digging in our area.

As it sounds like Bell is the incumbent phone company in your area, are these players all working for Bell?

Or is Rogers also laying fiber in your area?

I'm a Telecommunications Engineer & Certified Project Manager (Retired) with 35 years Telco experience.

I know Ontario is different than us on the prairies as there is still some Mom & Pop telephone companies there, but if your internet is with Bell, to me the only groups digging in your area to upgrade service would be Bell (the ILEC - Incumbent Local Exchange Carrier) and the Cable TV operator ( I presume Rogers)

That makes sense.  As the ILEC, Bell owns the lines in the ground & on the poles.   Other carriers can utilize their lines.

A Facebook friend in Port Elgin said he called Bell to raise hell and they gave him a $50 refund. Just sayin'

As a side question:  As people are being forced to switch over to fibre optic internet, are your landline phones being automatically switched over to VOIP?

Still have copper wire landline here (fibre op is available), but I have found that VOIP is less reliable, i.e. if the internet goes down, the phone goes down.  Had that happen a few times with my VOIP phones at work (when I worked), but the copper line phone at home has been dead nuts reliable, even during power outages.

Down again today at 9.30 back at 4:20 Does not affect our phone service. Asked my Internet provider to contact Bell MGT. and to complain about the continual interuptions on behalf of their customers. Not holding much hope!

I presume you mean it doesn't effect your Bell landline phone service.   If that's the case, then it's not a cable cut.

You are buying your internet service from a 3rd party, and as such they're responsible for the service.   I think I'd be talking to them about a rebate.

It sucks greatly.  I can't imagine having my internet cut out like that.  Obviously somebody's screwing up royally, and causing you grief.  The thing I find about internet/cable/phone companies these days is that customer service has become an afterthought.  They all seem understaffed and unconcerned about your issues.

I hope you can get it sorted out!
