Interesting question (I hope)

When I parted out the 66 Custom Sport one of the things I looked at when I removed it was the alternator. It has 1100597 for the stamping number, (which is on the front 1/2 of the body)  and 61A for a 61 amp. "Cool" I thought. I figured I had a spare 61 amp for the 66 Grande Parisienne because I think with the factory air it would have had the big alternator.

I just googled 1100597. Yes, 61 amp but from the 70's with the finned style rare 1/2 of the body on the alternator. However, this one doesn't have the finned body. Does that mean that someone put the early style rear body together with the later style front 1/2 of the body?  If so, that is new to me, I didn't know you can do that.

I don't think it will Carl. Different bolt pattern and internal construction..... Interesting but shouldn't the 66 have an external regulator? You have a 10SI model..

It totally looks like an original 66 alternator. 

I put it on a shelf in the shed tonight. I'll dig it out tomorrow and take some pics.

Interesting. I Google 1100597 and most of them come up finned. Then I go to ebay and find this one that is exactly like mine, the 60's style with external regulator-

Interesting Carl... Is the production date on the car very early...GM using up old stock or they had not updated to the rib style at the cars build date?
I've seen a ton of Vettes thru NCRS meets and never seen that. The rebuild industry defines the ribbed as the "10SI", ( internal regulator). The previous model, I don't know the name, had an external regulator as we all know...

I can tell mine is not original to the car because of the date on it. And it wouldn't make sense to have a 61 amp on a 283 car with no electric power options either. It must be a rebuilt or used one from another vehicle.

I'll try to get pictures later.

Carl it may be from an early 1973 model that still had an external regulator.

But didn't they go to a different style back half on the case even before that? For some reason I had it in my head that something like a 72 Chevelle didn't look the same as this.
