I did it - Bucket list item off the list - '86 Caprice

So perhaps a more exciting vehicle would make it better but as a product of the 80's myself and having one myself as a first car I foolishly restored a 1986 Caprice Classic. Not the bucket list item itself, but painting a car was. It's not perfect, but for a first time painting a complete car I am beyond pleased with the results. I did start with a super solid Texas car that lived most of its life in Florida and only has 27,000 miles on it. The paint was cooked and the body full of little dings and dents from the elderly gentleman that owned it most of its life. I did it all myself with the exception of the metal finishing I had done to ensure no filler went into it when done. (OCD is expensive)

I was flattered when it won Best 80's car in a local show full of Fox Mustangs, and Monte Carlos... Perhaps it was just something different.

I do want to thank those who helped with parts and part numbers from this site. This group is amazing!

That one just needs an improvement in the wheel department.

Knick-knacks... How about that nice dash... I can sleep at night without the chuck cut out of it by a previous owner to access the light switch. The bits and pieces have gone to great use. Thanks again!

There was a Chevrolet dealer in Barrie back in 1989 that ordered a fleet of Police Caprice sedans, for sale to the discerning public. I wanted one but wifey didn't want a white unmarked cop car with poverty caps (& Goodyear Eagle GT+4 tires).

After 1980 they looked the same until '86 models with their cleaned up header panel & grille. 87's got the composite 1-pc. rectangular headlights.

I have good impressions of those big GM B-bodies. I owned a 1977 Olds 98 Regency with 403 power for a time in the late .80's and it was comfy.

Look up 1985 Caprice SS. Maurice Carter Chev-Olds in Hamilton did a special Caprice SS coupe in 1985. They borrowed stuff from a Monte Carlo SS including exhaust system sections, wheels, etc. They were all black. Probably the only place you would see one now is on microfiche of a 1985 vintage Hamilton Spectator.

Beautiful paint, and a very nice looking result! I can see why it won an award.
