It's a 2022. We ordered it because we heard the 23 was a new model and my experience at the dealership all those decades taught me I didn't ever want to buy the first year of a new model.

The battery was defective on our's. It went from healthy to useless over the course of about 36 hours when the truck was 7 months old. The dealer is an hour away. I charged it up all day, still not even enough voltage for more than a click so I boosted it the next morning and drove the hour to the dealer on the alternator. They said one cell was dead.

Otherwise, just little knit-picky stuff. I hear a faint diff whine since day 1 (typical GM diff!), leaf springs creak (very quietly but I hear it), trans engages harsh sometimes after sitting overnight.  We have 30,000 km on it already after 10 months. Just back from a 4800 km trip to Alberta and it was great. Comfortable, happy with the fuel mileage etc.

Do the Canadian versions get the "over the air" updates like the US ones?
I wonder at what point they stop doing updates?

All new vehicles have been made more and more complicated over the last 20 or 30 years. There's now just too much to go wrong. My daily is 16 years old and the washer system started leaking like a sieve. I took one look at where the gubbins was and deferred to my type expert. He had to remove a wheel, then take out the whole thing including several pipes to clean the whole thing out (it was leaking from an overflow pipe because of internal blockages). There were two pumps, various valves and filters with a maze of pipes (all hidden behind a plastic inner wheel arch cover with about two dozen awkward fittings) and he had to work the two post lift up and down about four times to complete the task. Over 2 hours even with all the correct equipment!

I will be replacing the pump on the Parisienne very soon (which lasted 55 years even though it is a Lucas product). It'll take me about ten minutes...........

I just sent my 2021 packing.

LED one piece head lights and tail lights.

They blow and its big bucks.

My 2023 basic "work truck" uses traditional bulbs.

Try and fix one of the newer vehicles while on the side of the road. LOL. Pretty much a call to the tow truck.
Too many ECU'S in them, a lot of newer Toyota's were up around 50 ECU'S for a Gas car and many more for a Hybrid.
Not enough support from manufacturer to help try and fix the newer stuff, and then nobody wants to pay for the diagnosis.
They only pay to replace the broken stuff. Just my 2cents, But since retiring from this trade I don't have to deal with it anymore. LMAO.

Totally agree, I'm loving retirement. Got out just in time.

Likewise.  Now that everything is going to go electric, my interest is waning somewhat.  Talk about software-driven, these will be all software.  And batteries that are almost impossible to put out once they start to burn (thermal runaway).  I'm sure it will be fine eventually, but I'm glad to be out of the industry during the changeover... I suspect there will be a lot of not-fun times ahead for people who have to deal with these.

Dare I ask the question, Who is forcing this stuff? And they are supposed to be our advocates?

And they wouldn't have had to shut down production due to a computer chip shortage if they didn't have so many damn modules. A module for headlights, a module for wipers etc etc. It's pretty ridiculous.

The manufacturers are building what they can sell for the biggest profit, all the bells and whistles, and they are selling it. They dont offer a minimalist version like say a Strato Chief at a low cost to competes on price and they are doing the same with EVs, selling them loaded.
They also for the most part offer so many different models and make changes to parts way faster than necessary, making parts very expensive. Make fewer models and dont change parts for no good reason.
Tesla may be so profitable now because they make cars with few changes in styling and have a big commonality in parts from model to model, the way GM used to do things. Shocks and brakes that fit vehicles from 1955 to beyond 20 years, upper and lower control arms , you nam it. It made them very profitable for umpteen years.

You gotta wonder however if the time has come for a low priced bare bones vehicle. The average price of a car in Canada is now $66k. That's crazy imho. This is far higher than inflation. I don't now who's buying new cars but I suspect a lot of folks are burying themselves financially as a result.
