My recent thing a ma jing.

2 years ago I went to the Annual GM Cruise in St Catherines

Really well attended.  I happened to spot a pick up truck with an umbrella plugged into is trailer hitch.

HMMM?

That imaage stuck with me for 2 years.....

Here is my version for Cruise Nights.

First of all you need a trailer jack to stabilize the extension from the trailer hitch mount.

Then a long enough bar to get it away from the car.. so you can comfortable sit in the shade.

A few weeks ago I took a trip to Princess Auto and found the perfect jacking device to level the extension from the trailer hitch.

Took the trailer hitch and a couple of accessory pins to the local Metals Plus and described my wonderful idea.   Came back the next day to a 4 foot 2 inch square tubing, a short piece of metal tubing about 6 inches long that would slide over the 2 inch tube.

Took the package to my local welder who has always interpreted my crazy ideas and left it with him.

The jack winds from 14 inch to 28 inches and when welded to the 6 inch sliding tube places the trailer hitch pipe 14 inches above the ground.  The jack has plenty of range to adjust for certain types of terrain.  There was a tube welded to the side of the jack to insert the umbrella poil into

The 6 inch tube was welded to the side of the trailer jack and can be mounted anywhere along the length of the yellow tube.   Painted yellow to avoid people tripping over it....hopefully....

My grandson came with me to Tim Hortons to do a test run and that was on a windy day..

Found out the original tube that fits into the patio table was too long for my jack unit by the about the height of the trailer jack. We unpacked the umbrella but the post was too long and the wind got under it and lifted it right out of the mount.  The welder  had accounted for that and drilled a hole in the pipe receiving the umbrella pole, but i hadn't put the pin in the pole to hold it.  An almost disaster as the umbrella swung to ward my paint job.

Got a couple of pictures and folded the idea up till next summer.

Set up inside no wind.......

Couldnt set up because of the wind but the idea works.

That's an excellent idea Cliff! You now need to incorporate a small table you can attach to it.

my next plan is to get another short tube to slide over the yellow bar and get two more size tubes. Drill the top section of the tube to accommodate a beverage of your choice.

A cooler could fit on the ground.

The two drilled tubes can be welded to the slider tube.

Cant get to exotic ..

It's all got to fit in the trunk.

..
