Question: 66 - 67 A Body Beaumont Spring Perch

Hi Everyone

Well I have owned my 67 Beaumont since 2011, rebuilt it frame off to a finished car.  Since I put it it on the road I have changed the rear diff from a 10 bolt with 3.08 gears to a 12 bolt with 3:73's . I was younger then and enjoyed the rush of acceleration. I have aged and the sound of the power train is OK for a short drive, but after 40-50 KLms,  it can get to you, at least does to me. LOL.

Anyway, I have made a decision that I am going to re-install my 10 bolt differential with 2:73 gears in the car this spring, more for cruising.

The question I have is this,  are there any Teflon or other materials between the springs and the body seats and also on the differentials perches?  I can't remember what the original set up was, it's been a few years since I did that,  getting old I guess LOL

My shop manual doesn't illustrate this detail, or at least I can't find it !!!!.

Any comments ?

Regards Dale

66 and 67 A body frames have different sizes of upper spring perches. 66s use a spring that is tapered at the bottom and full width at the top. They use an insulator between the spring and perch. 67 springs are tapered both top and bottom and dont use an insulator

Check a good Chevelle supplier site, itll illustrate the different spring shapes and only show an insulator for the 66

Thanks Ted

Good feed back. I believe the 10 bolt was an original diff when I bought the car.

So , when I removed it to install the 12 bolt, there were no insulators, as you call them, and the springs are as you say tapered top and bottom

Peculiar though, I was under the impression that both the 66 and 67 a body differentials were identical. Obviously I was mis informed as you mentioned.

thanks for your comments.

Believe the 66 and 67 rear differentials are the same - they interchange.
It's the springs and frames ( and insulator or lack of ) which are different between the 2 years. But the lower section of a 66 spring is the same as the lower section of a 67 spring. So mounting of the spring to the diff is the same.

Actually the bottom of a 66 A body spring and 67 A body spring is different. 66 has a flat pad, 67 has a convex cup. 66 uses a flat washer and a bolt/nut through the hole in the pad, 67 has no bottom bolt.
