1972 Factory Dual piston Calipers, are they a good fit for my 1969 2+2

Good morning, all.

For my 2+2, Eric sent me those awesome 1970 spindles and hardware.(Thanks !)

I just came across a 1972 Vette that is getting all new top of the line brakes.

Available to me are the front calipers, brackets and rotors.

I would have the dual piston calipers rebuilt, if I go this way.

Opinions please, Good fit or bad fit ?

Randy

I think I'd go for original style. One side is hard to find but I see aftermarket ones now available.

$90 USD for 2? Crazy cheap!

I'd stay with the single piston setup over the Vette 4 piston.

But do you have the steering arms and caliper brackets for the single 69-70 setup? It's those arms, brackets and splash shields that are quite hard to find.

The spindles are easy, and you can use 69 drum hubs and C3 rotors and studs to complete them.

I bought a couple rebuilt ones from Rock Auto, thinking they'd be rebuilt GM units. One was (the side that's hard to find), the other was aftermarket. They're downstairs as spares.

I've had great success with any of the aftermarket rebuilts over the years, both personally and at work. Replaced a number of calipers on our daily drivers as well as the kids cars and never an issue.

As per your Title Randy, I don't think 71 and on calipers will work.

These were 69-70 specific.

Just curious, what did you order?   The Rock Auto ones I ordered were NuGeon.

The Left (hard to find one) was a rebuilt GM caliper casting.  The Right was a rebuilt aftermarket caliper casting, even though their listing says they rebuild OE castings.

They look fine. Please let us know if they show up with GM castings or aftermarket.

New glass bead in the cabinet works great. I really need to get back at them,

I'm sure it's hopeless to ask, but any chance that anyone out there has a set of those caliper brackets?

Someone was selling the aftermarket set here a few weeks ago,

There is hope for you.

This set was courtesy of Eric's back shed on another property.

Steve, the 69-70 steering arms, caliper brackets and splash shields are quite difficult to find separate from an entire setup.

You never know though...

I suspected that'd be the case and would take the whole set of "unobtanium" too, should one appear. I did procure a complete set several years back, however those two supports weren't there. Ended up fabricating the brackets which work quite well for now.

Still seeking the original hubs so I can utilize the Vette rotors like you did.

69-70 Drum hubs fitted with Vette studs will accept the Vette rotor and work with the single piston caliper.

I've done it.

That is my plan, but need the hubs.

Put a want ad in for them Steve. There must be someone with a pair under bench.

Sometime hopefully this year I'll have a pair available...if I get my butt in gear.

I have an extra set of 1969 drum hubs.

They can go back in the Canada Post box that carnut70ls4 sent me from Alberta.

He sent me the free power steering pump.

Just pay for shipping.

$37 Canada post, I sent him $50.

He takes his wife out for lunch.

Happy wife, happy life.

I myself only have one 1970, one piece, rotor.

Looks like they have been discontinued blankstare

I should have a pair of drum brake hubs Steve.  Plus those drum brake spindles you were looking for.

Thanks Clint, but it looks like I will be getting them from ABC123 anyway. I remember we had discussed the spindles once before but for various reasons, namely health, I've had to put everything on hold for the last 2 years.

I currently have 69 spindles on it and they were identical to the originals. it's the rotors and caliper supports that I have issues with. Specifically finding rotors that fit so hoping to go with the Vette rotors
