My buddy has a 2010 Tacoma, it needs a steering shaft, Toyota want $622 , rock auto $169, both plus shipping , Dorman on Amazon, free shipping,$125, other Chinese supplier on Amazon $54, also free shipping. What a crazy world.
The shaft has a knuckle, it rusts, and gradually wears down and has play now. Apparently a problem for years, there is a TSB on it. The good thing about these trucks, the part is the same from 2005-2015 on both 2wd and 4wd , just like in old GM vehicles. That why the Chinese parts can exist and why they are so cheap, they didnt change these kind of parts often.
I doubt this is happening much in most newer vehicles, same part used for 11 model years.

We did many of those shafts while at toyota, there is a coupler at top of shaft that usually gets cut off in order to get the lower part out, too much banging on rack and column is not good. Cut of with small cutoff wheel on die grinder. Toyota wanted us the change the bolts as well. Cut it on the backside opposite the slit and pry it open.
