Reading between the lines, it sounds like it could have been a 261 cast iron 'glide car. Repowered with a correct vintage 283 & a later aluminum Powerglide.

Strato Chief, the rustic & basic car.

I like it.

The aluminum powerglide came out in mid 62. My 62 with 283 had a cast iron trans.

I like learning new stuff and I just did again. I didn't know any 62's had the aluminum units.

I read somewhere that in 1962 the aluminum powerglide was used on the 327 and the 283 used the cast iron powerglide.

That is correct, the 6 also had an ironglide in 62, all were aluminum in 63. Looks like a good $8,000 car.

Wasn't a member inquiring about fenders for this car (they were thinking of buying it) as it had some rust issues?

That is almost funny right there, a Fire Chief in a Strato Cheif.
