Always liked the looks of old Jags 1973 etype 2+2 V12

I can go look at this one if anyone needs this for $15,000. Ive always liked the old 50s and 60s 4 door and 2 door Jags, but the Prince of Darkness and the unfamiliarity with British vehicles has always scared me away. This one has 3 pedals and a V12.

It would make one heck of a retro hot rod.

Those E-types are museum pieces, art even. They are also a monument to preventative maintenance.

1973 was the last year for the 2+2, for 1974 it was replaced (E-types are irreplaceable) with a sedan-cum-coupe in the form of an XJ12C. The E-type roadster continued by itself through 1974. The XJS coupe replaced it for '75.

I know it is considered sacrilege but there have been some nice engine swaps into E-types. One of the nicest was a small block Ford. People have also swapped in American sixes but after the original DOHC six anything else is a step down.

This is a pretty good buy in for such a car IF the engine isn't seized. I think these book in #1 condition at $135k USD so there's lots of "meat on the bone" if you were so inclined.

Saw one of these on line with a sbc in it. A fellow here had two 240Zs with an LT1 in one and a 96 vette engine in the other, both automatics. Letterman used to get caught speeding frequently in a Volvo240 with a 5L mustang engine in it. Fellow in the US had a dual quad 409 in his 56 TBird since the late 60s.

If you have a 12 cylinder engine, you would have to put that in a Jag. You couldnt put a 409 or 427 in there. It would work pretty good with one of those though. Guy says this motor is not seized.

Interesting about the sunroof. Apparently some got aftermarket sunroofs after being sold and many were made by a company called "Webasto". I'd enjoy seeing this car in person (as you all know I love all old cars).

If I recall, Jay Leno's Garage featured comedian Adam Carolla's E-type 2+2 4 or 5 years ago.

The Jag V12 was an unreliable dog that much we know. The 6 was the engine to have.

I wonder if anyone offers modern updates to solve the reliability issues of these engines. I don't really know what the issue were- ignition? Carbs? Bearings?

Probably a good mechanic that knew how they worked. Back in the day, the Chevy fuel injection from the 50s and 60s got removed and used as door stops. Nobody knew how to tune them. Lucas, the Prince of Darkness too?

Put a newer Ford 3.0 Ecoboost V6 with a fully modern automatic in it. Sling it low and back in the frame.

Ford- Jaguar...
