Hey guys, I need a piece of advice. I'm restoring a steering wheel (my second time), I was lucky and my steering wheel turned out with those super cool clear sections underneath the vinyl wrapper. I restored the cracked solid sections, not problems there, but with the clear ones I'm not sure what would make more sense. I want to leave it as is till I find the way to print it with clear resin, but would like tune it up a bit. My question is - should I sand it a tiny bit and apply clear coat? Or clear coat won't stick either way and Is better just to clean it and that's it? Also - any advice on the brown rusty areas? Any magic tricks?

Ended up like that for now, put clear coat on top of clear sectors to seal the smell coming from the cracks.
I know it's supposed to be black, but it will take some time to bring this ex show car to original colors and I always liked how light steering wheels looked like in classic cars. It will take a day or two to make it black either way. Got the black carpet already.
On that note a question - does the original steering look fawn to you?
I would like to restore mine but the clear is the tough part. Been searching for a transparent epoxy or some type of clear plastic putty, but no luck yet.
Theoretically if I knew all precise radiuses (like metal rod torus, the rest I can measure, the amount of bumps I can also count) and precise factory sections lengths (I may adjusted mine a bit here and there) I could just model 2 parts, front and back, then whoever has a resin printer could just print them and glue with something transparent. We will need someone who's willing to sacrifice the wheel, cut out the sections of interest and try and fit the printed result(s).
