checked my bank account this morning and my work pension had not been deposited . checked a few more times in the day but nothing. Called one of the other guys and he got his so i called the union rep and he said i was the third guy to call today. He call s them and they said they sent me 3 letters to update my info and when they got no reply they deemed me to be dead and stopped my pension deposits. Well I am still working contributing to my pension every week and they failed to notice. unbeilievable
Ya they luv to collect it !!!! OK Prove your not dead!!! Now you will have to fill out 50 forms to prove your not dead....but a dead guy can't fill out 1 form. Todays world..... Computer says so....
A year before I retired at 65 in 2012 I was getting my CPP in order so there would be no problems when I officially retired.
I made a call to "those that know" in Ottawa to start the process as requested by them in a letter I received earlier.
I came to Canada in 1949 at the age of two with my mother (Polish) by airplane from Germany.
In order to immigrate to Canada my father (Polish) was required to take a mining job in Renabie, Ontario for a minimum of two years.
He came to Canada three months before by boat.
So talking to "Colin" in Ottawa he was asking me questions as if I had no record of existing in Canada.
" Do you have the plane ticket from when you came to Canada?" "Do you have report cards of the schools you attended?"
"Can you prove you grew up in Sudbury?"
I became a Canadian in 1955 and have the certificate of citizenship. I have paid income tax and CPP since the 60's.
I was told by "Colin" to put together as much information from those early days as I could and make an appointment with Service Canada in Calgary.
At the Service Canada meeting I presented all the stuff including my grade school report cards and old income tax forms. The agent asked me what all this was about.
I told her this was what "Colin" in Ottawa told me to do. She just rolled her eyes and said it wasn't necessary, and there is no issue in getting my CPP.
I mentioned that all "Colin" had to do was check with CRA or Citizenship Canada and all the information would have been there.
..........apparently different departments in the government don't share information or talk to each other.
Here's a question: How are you collecting your work pension while still working and contributing to your pension at the same place?
in my trade there are many members with bad backs, legs arms etc. all from lifting heavy pipes and climbing for years. The union came up with idea of guys doing inspections of Sprinler systems for 3rd year rate and also collect thier pension. you have to have 20 years in the trade to take this deal. we get full pension at 55. at 55 i had 39 years in. Under this deal i can go back to the tools at any time and they stop my pension. I know some guys have quit paying into the pension but I keep paying to get the increases. I dont know any other trade that has a deal like this. With this said there is not many guys that want to do test & inspect they rather spin the wrenches. I am not allowed to do any repairs
