Yesterday, I put the 3rd new fuel pump in 5 or 6 years, maybe 10,000 miles, on the 230CI in my 65 Beaumont. Tried a few other things, but it was clearly the pump.
there seemed to be lots of gas in the line, and gas ran out of the pump once I set it down but it wasn't pumping a drop to the other end. The only odd thing I noticed was the gasket was broken when I took the old one off.
The last two pumps have been Carter pumps which seem to come highly recommended.
Any similar experiences, recommendations, things to watch for, etc?
Your pump style appears to be the correct rebuild-able style. Used through 1966, then they switched to a sealed type for the 67s.
I haven't had one apart so I don't know what is actually contained within, but it almost sounds like the membrane might be ruptured. Ethanol can do that, and so can the passage of time, especially on NOS parts that have dried out for decades.
