Did Facebook Kill the Car Forum?

This is a great article by Hagerty.

https://www.hagerty.com/media/great-reads/did-facebook-kill-the-car-forum/

IMHO I'd say Facebook has a place for automotive enthusiasts however I never search a group for information. Once a post leaves my feed I've pretty much forgotten about it.

I use the Canadian Poncho Facebook page as a launching point to the forum. Regarless of my opinions I'd say Facebook certainly is hurting the forums. It could also be the fact younger folks aren't interested as much into the cars from the 1970's-back.

Facebook is a horrible alternative to sites like this as far as I'm concerned. Impossible to find old discussions there vs a simple search here.

Full of scammers when guys are trying to do parts deals. That scammer we had here yesterday is likely one of no more than half a dozen I remember ever being here in over 16 years that this site has been around.

I do some admin work (along with some other guys) for two Facebook car groups and I bet between us we weed out at least half a dozen scammers per week.

Facebook is what it is, I joined to be able to see things and buy and sell stuff locally. Never search there for good information about an old car or whatever.

if you only went to forums for interaction with other enthusiast, sure, but for getting good information, and being able to find good information - never...

I find most car related Facebook groups are for posting pictures of their cars and look what I did posts. Sort of like the Lounge and the What did you do in the Garage on this Forum. Im guilty of posting there myself. At least no pictures of food in these groups. Lol. As far as correct and useful information not much there.

Facebook is what it is but it is definitely not a substitute for sites like this where guys can share real information and tips or ask for help and get real answers.
