Auto stop/start bypass

Be very interested in your opinions on this..... :rub . We may be looking for a new
GM of some sort (Equinox?) and this stop/start feature is a 'no deal' for us. Wonder how good and
reliable these bypass things are.........:juggle

No idea on that one, but some of manufacturers have their own bypass or shut for this feature. Toyota models have shut of switch
but must be engaged at every ignition cycle. Trying to force the driver to use the autostart function to get better fuel economy
and less emissions.

We just added a 2025 Genesis GV70 to compliment my G80 and there is an override button on the dash so I can't imagine other manufactures don't have that too.

Mary doesn't seem to mind the feature but I switch it off each time I get behind the wheel..

The car we rented this winter had a dash button we pushed each time we started the car if we wanted that locked out. That to me is a bearable option.

When we ordered our 2022 Canyon ( my nephew was the salesman) I told him if it came in with auto stop and there was no way to lock it out or program it out then he was going to have a Canyon for sale on the lot that a customer refused when it arrived. Thankfully they have no feature like that on it so we didn't have to do anything.

I have a 2024 Trax LT -I hate that option-there is a button you have to push everytime you start the engine to overide and cancel it out-you get use to it-when I push to start I then push to cancel the stop/start feature.

On a VW, just a tiny jiggling of the wheel and it doesnt shut off. Probably the same with all of them.

As for Don's comment, I get it. With the VW scandal, if the wheel moved then the car went into proper driving mode, but if the wheel never gets touched then the car goes into EPA test cycle mode. Once the EPA got wind of that it was Dieselgate. If that was such a huge transgression, then how come virtually everyone used TCS (Transmission Controlled Spark) to lock out full advance until 30 seconds pass, and it never got called out? It was a test hack.

On my VW there are different settings for driving mode, all done through a button that you set and forget. On NORMAL it does not use start / stop, on SPORT it opens up exhaust baffles within the exhaust system, ECONOMY mode will use start / stop automatically. Frankly this start / stop technology is pretty interesting, but to me it is tortured overwork for diminishing returns.

My VW has self-parking as well, but I have never tried it as I have a manual trans.

The vws I drove were automatic loaners while my manual diesel vw was in the shop. The work was warranty and they were having a hard time fixing it.

When we had the rented Malibu with the button to turn it off I found after a week or two it was just habit, just like clicking on the seat belt. You don't even think about it.
