These roads are old, maintained by the province, I assume only in summer. They would be mud to the axles in spring and deep snow in winter.

That peaceful road reminds me of Martin Sideroad in Ancaster. It isn't maintained anymore and hasn't been for decades but it used to make for a challenging drive in a '75 Laurentian wagon (which is why we did it often).

"Bud the Spud from the bright red mud" is what Stompin' Tom Connors used to sing about.
