I attended it for the first time on Saturday afternoon. Can't say that I enjoyed it. There were cars here and there and some driving, but there was also just regular cars and that made for traffic jams in certain places. With the old cars being spread out it was awkward to want to stop and get out to look.
I could see how just camping out on the boulevard for the day might be best. But I'm not sure.

It's too bad your experience wasn't a good one.
When I went we started early in the morning and parked the car on a back street. We spent the whole day walking up one side of Woodward and then walking back on the other side. Each business and parking lots on each side were filled with classic cars (like mini show and shines) and as we walked we viewed the cars going down Woodward Ave.
I think we walked about a mile on each side. Lots to see.
Our day ended after dark when there was drag racing on Woodward Ave. We were back at our hotel around midnight.
For me it was a great experience. I'd love to do it again.
