His instincts on the GTO & Grand Prix were perfect, and based on his success GM promoted him to head of Chevrolet during 1969. His accomplishments at Chevrolet were the high-caster steering geometry on the 1973 Monte Carlo for greater stability, but also a de-proliferation of options. Compare a 1969 Chevrolet option list to a 1970. No longer a full range of axles with every drivetrain, traction dispenser dropped, that sort of thing. Too many options translated into scheduling issues that didn't justify the cost nor pad the bottom line.
