another reason Carl is lucky to have bought a 2022 Canyon

brake pads on the 2023 Colorados are wearing out so fast they are out of stock on them. Because they have a wear indicator built into the pads no one makes after market ones. one of our trucks has 70,000 kms on it and he went in for his 5th time for brakes. He was told no pads to replace. fleet  guy said drive it anyhow. At 70,000 on mine the indicator came on for brake replacement. I have 81,000 on it now with no promblems. all this said, this is the best stopping truck i have ever driven. even pulling my dump tailer

So far we sure love the truck and sadly, even though it won't be 2 years old until November it already has 51,000 km on it.

I hope to do the "reveal" this week on our new daily driver which will help keep the miles down on the Canyon.

Our son would like to buy it in a year or two but man, I've read of a lot of electrical woes with the 23 and 24 Canyons. Other than brakes, how has your's been?

Mine is approaching 15 months old and I have 81,000 km on it. It has a lot of power for a four-cylinder, so it's not lacking there. The only thing is that this has the smallest horsepower engine even though they are all 2.7. Its tow rating is only 3500 pounds. I have towed over 5000 with it and it seems to be able to handle it. OK but not recommended by the handbook for 81,000 The truck must be driving true as the tires show very little where I'm figuring I might even be able to get close to 200,000 out of them for factory tires. That is really good.

Because this is just a work truck, it does not have any fancy options but did come with navigation for Work purpose. It goes in on Tuesday to have the Remote start installed I do not wanna go through another winter without it. 700 bucks out of my pocket because company will not pay for it. it also will get the latest three recall repairs done. It was in once before they have three done the worst is that a sensor viewing the road has to be replaced three times driving down the highway. I've had the brakes just slam on automatically and I'll tell you it is scary, I was able to get into the settings and delete it to stop that as Carl said there's been electrical issues something to do with the daytime driving lights blinking coming on and off. I have not experienced that but they are going to do the recall.

One of the reasons I was hesitant to replace my daily driver was the new one has a traffic detection function. I didn't want it to slam on the brakes for a ghost and cause a chain reaction collision on the 401. Then I discovered I could switch it on or off. Sold!

2.7 litre, that is a big four. How is it for smoothness?

They finally got stock on brake pads for my truck. Just the front pads are $369. That is crazy.

That's parts only? Not including labour?

They only list rear pads for the 2023 so far.

Another one of those year over year changes that make it difficult for the aftermarket, all car manufacturers seem to do this way too much and most often for little or no significant benefit? When I bought brake drums/shoes for my 59 El Camino, I believe they were the same on numerous GMs up to 1972, including pickups.

Carl, do you feel your brakes are inferior? These is probably an ad on the go touting the new improved brakes on the 2023? And you may need a computer input to tell your new 2023 it has new brakes. I see the computer thing needed on some vehicles when you install a new battery and many other things. And some new vehicles have no oil or transmission dipstick, the computer will tell you when your oil is low. Leaving you with a major penalty when your computer fails to do its warning job?

You nailed it Don, these pads have a chip in them or some kind of metal strip that is picked up when they were down so much by the computer and indicate you need new brakes and I'm also assuming when you put new pads on you will have to reset the computer. Because the wheels have been upgraded from 22 to 23 to full size, I must say this truck stops extremely well

Not at all. The brakes have never felt anything but 100% sufficient including when I'm pulling my car trailer with a full size 66 Pontiac station wagon on it which I've done twice. But of course, as Kevin says, they had to come up with something that gives the owner less control over his vehicle and his decisions about maintenance....

Our son would love to have us buy a new Canyon so he could buy our 2022 but I'm not so sure I'm ready to do that.

My reaction to all of this auto manufacturer control freak stuff takes me back to what my 3 year old used to say to me-Youre not the boss of me!!-

Same with government- many feel the government shouldnt tell us what to do- unless its something we like. Like a rail strike or a longshoreman strike, big business hates government interference until they want a government intervention to end a legal strike. The government is not the boss of me!!!
