Seller says: "The car has been sitting as pictured for over 30 years in a heated basement beneath the home." I have never seen a "basement" find before.aww

Cool car however Bud Lindemann wasn't impressed with this powertrain in the '69 Impala

That would have to be one of those lower compression 2 barrel 396's, 1969 only.

Yup, 265 HP and single exhaust, barely gets out of its own way BUT the potential is there. The small block L48 was a better choice at 300 HP.

Also are those '64 wheel discs?

Anyhoo, its a cool car.

The wheel discs are from a '64 Custom Sport.

In the 70's a local drag racer, Rene Saulnier ran a 69 Caprice station wagon with a 396 in Stock class.  I don't remember his times but it was VERY impressive for a 2 barrel low compression engine.

The beauty of the low compression 2-barrel 396 is that it is easy to upgrade. The horsepower numbers only tell part of the story, torque form 396 cubic inches is there on tap from idle on up, all with civilized manners. If you tow a trailer in hilly country with that car, the 2 barrel is your friend. That is why big trucks used large displacement engines with puny valves & carburetor, to exploit the torque without consuming gas at a fast rate. Plus that 396 has a 9:1 compression, very pump friendly. I wonder how the valve seats are?
