Are you looking for a power rear antenna pic, or a manual? Like you, I have been watching for examples but not finding.

A former member here, Strato427 (Doug), ordered new a basic '68 Strato Chief 2-door sedan with nothing except for a 427, 4-speed, Positraction (Doug said 3.73:1), F-41 suspension, complete tinted glass, AM radio, rear antenna (he ordered manual, Oshawa built it with a power antenna). I wonder if the factory was only doing power rear antennas? The Tripoli Turquoise Ste. Thérèse, Quebec-built '68 Impala SS 427 convertible we saw on this site a bunch of year's back and that was purchased by GParis7, that one also had a factory power rear antenna. It had been replaced however with a manual antenna at some point by either the first or second owner. (GParis7 is the 4th owner.)

If you were to see a factory rear antenna, chances are it would've been on a loaded Super Sport or Caprice (even a hardtop sedan). It would be unusual but totally possible to have a rear antenna on the 2 or 4-door sedan (post).

For what it's worth, I have made up factory-appearing pictures of various 67/68 Chevrolets equipped with rear antennas. I tried my best to make them accurate. My aim was to make then as good as factory photos, but they are not factory photos.

From a '68 Biscayne picture I did:

rendering of sedan rear antenna.jpg

^ It is supposed to be a power rear antenna, but I used a manual antenna & moved the tip down to the nut (not really "correct"). Also for correct placement you really have to visualize the brace in the trunk that comes down from the the inner sail panel area; it is that inner brace that the power rear antenna motor fastens to.

From a '68 Chevrolet brochure cover I augmented a little:

full

^ I added a production resonator & tip from a new '68 Biscayne cop car, made it an SS with a 396, added wires, tinted the glass & drew in a power rear antenna (in light & dark grey!)

Hey, it's better than nothing. I'm really trying to help...

I did some digging through old media and found a few things. One is of an actual 1967 Biscayne 2-door sedan with a U75 power rear antenna. I thought it was the U73 antenna since it was not retracted all the way. Then I saw inside the trunk:

For comparison's sake here are some 1967 Impala convertible manual rear antenna shots. The contour of the fender is like the sedan, unlike the "fastback" coupes.

The "Fastback" Sport Coupe below has a replacement whip from who knows what.

Just for comparison I'll throw in a pair of 1967 Canadian Pontiac images I found from way back:

67 Pontiac FB U75.jpg

I think it makes a difference as to mast placement Manual vs. Power, and within that, body style.

Interesting. The inside shot of the 67 Chevy 2 dr post shows what appears to be the identical to a 66 Canadian full size Pontiac power antenna (but not US models, they are 100% different). I asume the bezel will be different due to panel angle but I bet the rest is the same.

Now, in reference the original request ---- Dave will any cross reference help you as to other models that use the same antenna be any help to you? Or do you just need a picture?

Thanks guys,  i think the picture of the Biscayne 2dr post is exactly what i was after.  All i really wanted to see was where a power antenna would be located along the quarterpanel.  And this pic shows it being about 1/2 way back along the trunk lid. so thats what i will go with!  Thanks for the help.

And just to add to the confusion, here's a picture I forgot I had taken back in 1991 of a Canadian-built 1968 Impala SS427 convertible with factory power rear antenna. The location is far forward, but that may be due to different internal bracing in the convertible.

SS427rrM2.jpg

I took this picture of this 1-of-12 Canadian cars parked along the side of Kingston Road at a transmission shop where it splits into Danforth. I eventually spoke with the owner in 1993 and got the low-down on the car. It was built with a factory power rear antenna, although it was not functioning at the time. It also was ordered with an AM radio / separate 8-Track stereo, TH400, power windows, N34 wood wheel, full tint, remote-controlled mirror, F41, disc brakes, 15x6 Rally Wheels, Positraction, and was a Z03 buckets n console car. Whether the G70-15 tires were red-stripe or white-stripe I could not say but the former would look killer!

The first owner was a doctor in Haliburton, Ontario and purchased it at the local Chevrolet-Oldsmobile dealer that used to exist at Highland Avenue & Maple Street (I remember it in the 1970s & 80s). The second owner was the mechanic who maintained the car for the first owner.  He in turn later sold it to his mechanic friend in Scarborough where I saw it in the 1990's and beyond. It has since been sold out of Province to a member here a few year's back, and he has restored it. I think he also put a set of Torque-Thrust wheels on it.
