1969 Strato Chief Moulding

I am wondering if anyone knows if the 69 Strato Chief was always made without the side body moulding. The brochure shows it not being used at all. I have seen some pictures of 69 Stratos with and without it. Was it perhaps an option one could add to the Strato? I thought the Laurentian, Parisienne and Grande Parisienne were the only ones to use it, while the Strato Chief and 2+2 did not.

Edit: Found it. It was an option for Strato Chief and Safari only. B84

I'm no 69 expert, but I don't think the Strato-Chief had body side mouldings. As such, the market lights (both front & rear) were bullet shaped on both ends like the 2+2.

Dad's Strato Chief had them but they could have been dealer installed however you can see how these mouldings "flatten" before they reach the side markers which is strange. The car was a dealer demonstrator when he bought it.

Chevrolet & Canadian Pontiac were usually in lock-step with options. While I don't remember seeing a Strato Chief with the side mouldings (other than Todd's old photo), I do remember seeing an original 1969 Biscayne waaaay back. It was a stock '69 Biscayne 4-door with the stock rocker spear mouldings, plus the Bel Air full-length bodyside moulding (option B84).

B90 Chrome Window Frames were probably available on Strato Chief & Laurentian sedans & Safaris. I remember seeing a '70 Bel Air sedan with them & a vinyl roof. It looked like a Bel Air with Impala doors.

On the later generation it was not unusual to see the optional mouldings. Dad had a '74 Biscayne with optional B84 Bodyside Mouldings & B80 Bright Drip Rails. There was another around like it that additionally had B90 Bright Window Reveal Mouldings.

I know that but take a look at the ends of the mouldings. They aren't the generic ones seen from Canadian Tire. I do know when the car was painted in the late 70's it was removed and the generic ones were installed. I do have the VIN for that car so one could get the VVS paperwork for it.

On a side note the Laurentian body side mouldings were just stainless with no rubber inserts.

I checked my parts catalogue. No listing for mouldings on the Stratochief in 69 so they must have been dealer installed.

Yes, you can see that the rear side marker light is the bullet style in the picture of your dads car.

 As we found out before,

A dealer would slap anything on to make a sale.

We have a member with a 69 Parisienne convertible with Grande Parisienne trip.

He had proof that the car came from the dealer.

He has not posted in a while.

Love to see the update on that car restoration

So, Im curious on the concept of the dealer installing the side moulding. On the American B bodies, oval holes were punched in the sheet metal at the factory so the side moulding mounting clips could be attached. Were the Canadian mouldings put on a different way? Or would the dealer use emblem tape? Anyone seen one with moulding mounted with emblem tape? Just curious if there were differences from the American cars.

The side mouldings had oval holes in the sheet metal and a plastic bathtub clip was used to secure the moulding.  I've been looking for those bathtub clips for some time, but was able to grab a bunch of used ones from a 69 Parisienne in the local junk yard.   So, to add the side mouldings onto a Strato-Chief, they would have needed to used some type of emblem tape.

It was also very common to have "chrome mylar" flexible bodyside mouldings by the roll. They were adhesive.

Side mouldings were held on by bathtub clips through 1970. The next generation switched to adhesive mouldings at some point (the factory bodyside mouldings on our '74 all peeled off on their own, just another reason why dad never bought GM after '74.)
