Power windows installation and related issues (1965 Parisienne)

Hey there, I'm starting this separate thread to walk through the process and discuss any issues related.

So I got the kit, which harness looks like it's from 64 according to the wire colors.

Thanks to advice of the experts I figured that the plates were the holes for harness should be on 65 are able to be knocked out, will test that once I get correct conduit boots.

I cleaned and lubed all the mechanisms and motors and now 8 have a couple issues.

1. I'm not 100% sure mechanisms are from 65. What's the way to figure out if they are 65 or 64? And if they are 64, will they fit 65? Door mechanisms have 7788 stamped on them and that seems to be the only identification, quatrers have 16 stamped. Motors seem to be the same for 64 and 65, but can't confirm.

2. I layed evening on the ground, hooked to battery power and got nothing. I assume they need to be grounded? If so, what would be the best way to test it without mounting everything?

I can help with this as I've done a number of power window conversions and specifically twice on exactly this application.

Have you seen this thread?

Power window, power vent, power lock conversion - Canadian Poncho (activeboard.com)

65 and 66 are the same, 64 and older is different, 67 and up is different. The regulators must be from a 1965-1966 full size Chev Olds Pontiac or Buick.

I happen to have a set of regulators for 65-66 hardtop here right now so I can get you some pictures for comparison.

To test them, hook up a battery ground to the regulator then power up either one of the 2 terminals in the motor. Regulator should move one direction, if you remove the power and power the other terminal it should move the other direction.

One thing to keep in mind, the power regulator bolts (4) do NOT go in the same mounting holes that the manual regulator bolts (4) used.

I will get a picture of that as well so you can see where they mount. That is one question that always comes up when guys are converting manual to power. The natural inclination is to try to bolt the power regulator in where the manual regulator was bolted and that is not where it fits.

I big hole in the metal behind the kick panel for the inner grommet on the boot.

4 very small holes in the inner door skin to mount the regulator. That's it for drilling.

Are there dimples on the inner door skin to guide where to drill?

You bet.

This picture shows the fronts. The bottom 2 regulator bolts are just above the 2 white/gray wires and the top 2 bolts are straight up from the bottom bolts about 6".
