Best way to ship parts to the US? (Postal strike)

Has anyone shipped to the US other than Canada Post? I have a package to send, about a 2 foot cube, 25 pounds. Mail is always cheapest but not an option right now.

I have an account with UPS and find their costs competitive with Canada Post for larger packages. They are more expensive for smaller packages. UPS has a habit of applying a surcharge with no explanation.

I use an outfit called DYK Post, they have locations in BC & AB. I take it there, they do the US postage, then take it across the border for a small fee.

Don are you thinking to bring it this way? I have used them for that but I want to ship something to New York state direct.

I tried to do it up on the UPS site and they want some Harmonized Tariff number as well as some sort of number for the buyer, something to do with income tax for him or something.

In the meantime I got a call from a member here who gave me a tip on a site to try. I'll keep this updated if the deal works out and I end up shipping.

Earlier this year you Winnipeg guys were talking about someone who provides this service (possibly Running Red Transport), taking things from Canada into the USA and hitting USPS in N Dakota. I remember someone stating that they didn't need to do a declaration or anything like that, which I found odd.

On the items I take to DYK Post for them to take to Montana and send, I complete a simple declaration and away it goes.

I just glanced at Runnin' Red's website, looks like they offer the service, but you drop the package at their Winnipeg location.

no - have used it to take items i have sold to us buyers over the border and mail them from Pembina north dakota

as is mentioned in Winnipeg i have to take the item to a location in Transcona to get it put on one of there trucks

there is the option to pay an extra fee and get them to pay an extra fee have them come to my house and pick it up

i have used them about 20 times this year and it works great

Interesting. Do you do up a prepaid label with someone like Fedex, UPS etc?

I've shipped to the USA with UPS, and while they may ask for some of the stuff like Harmonized Tariff # etc, that's optional.  Just declare the contents, value, country of origin and you should be good to go.

Last night it wouldn't let me go to the next screen without filling in the HT box, not sure why.

With Howmac's help I think I have a better solution now anyway but I'll know better later this week when I actually do up the shipment.
