Never heard of a diesel in any North American car of this era. Seller says its slow, I bet its really slow, top speed 55mph. Nice setup to see in person.

I saw that one on Ebay a few weeks ago. They were marketed towards Taxi operators. Slow but reliable...

When I saw the engine I thought "Perkins". They are (were) a British Diesel manufacturer. Wow, a naturally aspirated 4-cylinder diesel in a '59 Savoy. If I thought the 1973 Fury I taxi in Ancaster with the slant six or a Peugeot 504 diesel was slow, I guess we have a new paradigm.

Dad's first new car was a 1957 Plymouth Plaza 2-door, pink & white, with the smallest engine that I thought they offered. It had a flat-head 230 six.

Dad's first new car was also A 57 Plymouth 4 door red and white. The six cylinder was way under powered for that tank. After several valve jobs in a total engine rebuild, they towed it way with only 57,000 miles on it. That's when he bought the new 62 Pontiac, Laurentian Waggon nine passenger blue with white roof. You went from the worst car he ever owned to probably the best one.

If you were buying a Mopar with a 6 in 1957-59 you were better off to buy a Canadian built "Plodge" like the Regent. Those came with the larger truck 251 Flathead. I had a Windsor built 58  Dodge Regent with this engine and it moved the car very well. The Regent had the Dodge front clip on a Plymouth body.

First car I bought when I got my license was a 52 Plymouth with a flathead, it was a 2 door hardtop and ran pretty good. Sold it to a guy who put bucket seats and a 318 push button in it, he was up west somewhere in Prince County, PEI.
