409 Update

This is going to be a long winded topic. Years ago a buddy and co worker who is a Pontiac collector found out i had a 409 Pontiac. He moved back home down east and we kinda lost touch. He kept asking me for pictures but I never got back. On a trip back to the prairies he came and took pictures himself which he posted on this site. A lot has happened since then. I pulled it out of storage and after replacing a few bent push rods(stuck valves) it was on the road. It ran decent but had many leaks and was burning oil. Time to bite the bullet and rebuild the old girl.(Has 120,000 hard miles.) ive actually track down and talked to the3 previous owners except the original who has passed. Ive attached some engine rebuild pictures. I can keep updating if there is enough interest?

I hope you are talking about me? (IF you are refering to me, just filling in some blanks, the east Gordie is referring to is Foam Lake, 2.5 hrs east of 'Stoontown. ALTHOUGH, I am from Newfoundland originally with a 9 year layover in Goose-Bay, Labrador.)

I had moved to oldsledguys' neck of the woods for work for 2 years after the GM dealer in the town where I am still living, went under. I then opend my own shop which is now in its' 17 year. (time flew)

YEP, bring on the pics.

Which owner put in the Isky cam? It sounds like that car could tell some stories.

Until I can figure how to post pictures I will let everyone know the history of my car. I was fortunate enough to talk to all the previous owners of my car except for the original fellow who had passed away. The car was a order out of Keller and Cameron the GM dealer in Kindersly Sask. The story has it that when the car was built the owner and some buddys hoped on the train and went to pick it up at the factory. Al g the way they had to many martinis and got booted off the train. Somehow they made it to the factory and drove back home. The original owners son did not remember the car when I talked to him. Probably was before his time. For some reason the car went back to the dealership with in a year or so and was bought by a fellow from the small town of Eatonia,Sask. He told me he only had the car a short time when he fell in love with a red Thunderbird in Saskatoon,Sask. He traded it for the thunderbird at Mid-West Auto motive. Mid-West was a new business started by Ken Achs. Ken was selling speed parts, flipping cars and doing bodywork at the time. Ken was also into drag racing and has been added to the racing hall of fame. I talked to Ken but he couldnt remember the car. The guy I bought it from bought it from Ken. He remembers finding some timing tickets in the car . It would be cool to see what the times were as this car had no posi and would have been running bias tires. Speed ahead to 1980 or 81. I was in the local automotive parts store and the counter guy said his brother had a big block 65 Pontiac he wanted to sell. I went out to his farm by the small town of Harris Sask and bought the car. It was sitting in the garden and needed a water pump. It had. Paint job along the way and was pretty faded. I brought it home put in a water pump and started driving the wheels of the old girl. When I bought this car it was just a old car with a big engine. As often the case life gets in the way and I quit driving the car and put it away in storage starting it up once in awhile. For some reason it just kinda stayed with me. In fortunate enough not to have done a lot of the so called upgrades and custom things we did in the eighties like hacking dash and door panels for stereos etc. The guy I bought it from always reminded me that he wished he never would have sold it. Anyways thats what I know about my car. Im sure all the previous owners had many stories that Ill never know!

If I remember right from pictures Ive seen, it has no power steering so I was just wondering how heavy it was to drive?

Non-script valve covers, Canada-only. Intake looks like a 340-horse model but it looks like it has received some attention.

409 Pontiacs, what rare birds!

One of the design flaws of the 348 / 409 engines is the combustion chamber is in the top of the cylinder.

You've included 1 photo per post.  You can include numerous photos per post, just attach them and insert them.

What a beautiful engine, 1 post on the temperature sensor, so no cold light? Those are Canadian Pontiac only valve covers, I assume the Cdn Chev had bowties.

Intake for a 340hp 409- it would have a 4GC in 65?
