RE: 409 Update

Is the 409 a capable engine? I ask that honestly, as I know zero about them. They look the part.

They put in about 75 as far as i know. Rare as heck and with a four speed even rarer.  They went very well.

Yes,no power steering but steers fairly easy. No cold light just the hot warning light. The valve covers are Canadian Pontiac only as well as the air cleaner decal which on this car is there but un readable.

The 409 is a torque monster, hp wise they came as 340 in 63-65 hydraulic lifter single 4 barrel form. They came in solid lifter single or double 4 barrel form as 380-400-425hp. Aftermarket has aluminum heads, intakes, and blocks available and with modern pistons, cams, and stroker cranks, they have been built to 800+ hp and quarter mile times under 9 seconds, the last I read about them. They can go very fast if you bring your wallet.

Much cheaper and easier to build a 454 and the 409s are much more rare. Was the L33 just the 340hp 409? Was there a solid lifter option in 1965? If yes, probably more rare than the 340 in a 65.

The 425hp 409 was available in 1963/64, it tied with the 1966 425 hp 427 for the most stock advertised hp ever put in a factory built in any Cdn or USA Pontiac of any size/model.

USA sales of factory 409 Chevies iirc were over 8,000 in 62, 21,000 in 63, and 11,000 in 64. There were a few hundred in 1961. Canadian wise, I havent seen any numbers from Canadian Chev but judging by the Pontiac numbers, they would likely be under 500 for both makes from 63-65. I dont think a 409 was available in Canada in 1962.

Ya, that there is a stripped-down, go-fast purist car. With hydraulic lifters, oodles of torque, and it isn't high-strung like a 400-horse version would tend to be (though that would be nice just the same). The 409 isn't as heavy as a Mark IV big block, though even those don't upset the balance on the big cars with their longer wheelbase.

Tuxedo Black with red interior on a '65 Parisienne Custom Sport would look super nice and was a great choice when new.

Heres where the interior is at. Seat cover and carpet changed and rear package tray. Headliner, door panels, dash all original. Would have liked to have keep it more original but the drivers seat was trash. Once the cover was removed a lot of welding and straightening had to be done as the seat was back was pushed back a good 5 inches at the top. The rest of the covers were ok but sun burnt and crispy. Drivers side carpet was a mess yet floor pan was solid.
